Rally International des Alpes
3-8 July 2004

correspondence for TSCG by Kostas Spiropoulos, Geneva

The 48th Rally International des Alpes has started from Geneva on the 3rd of July 2004. A great event for central Europe and every classic car enthusiast.

A challenging rallye, going through fascinating roads in the Alpes at altitudes exceeding 2000 metres, that test the endurance of drivers, the accuracy of codriver timekeeping and vehicle reliability. Starting from Geneva, the cars have driven through Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy, to end up in St. Moritz for the finish line.

Participation for this year's Rallye has exceed 60 cars, ranging from a 1927 Bentley to a 1963 Mercedes 280SL. Cars in perfect condition and crew prepared for the difficult, but rewarding 4 days.

Loyal to our tradition of objective stance, we looked for "our" cars. With great pleasure we identified not one but four excellent Triumphs participating in the Rallye, a couple of TR4 (1962 & 1964) with British crews, a german TR3 (1960) and a while Spitfire4 MkII (1966) with an enthusiastic elderly couple from Britain.

As the last car was leaving the starting ramp with great engine noise, the spectators were cheering, and the band was busy playing the swinging 30s. I could not help a large smile on my face, reflecting the ideal weather conditions ahead, the sunshine and the cool Alpean breeze. I was zealous, not only for the beautiful cars, but also for the roads lying ahead of them!
My dear little Spitfire, Where Are You?
